From Small City Dreams to Big Rooms: My First Sneaker Exhibition Experience

From Small City Dreams to Big Rooms: My First Sneaker Exhibition Experience

This past weekend was one I will never forget.

I had the opportunity to attend the Art of the Game Exhibition in San Francisco and not just as a spectator, but as a creator in the room.

Being able to network with other artists, creatives, and industry professionals was incredible. It was my first major sneaker event, and walking into that space felt surreal. There’s something powerful about being in a room where everyone is passionate about what they create.

And yes being in the same room as Stephen Curry was amazing.

But what impacted me even more was seeing how the room actually works.

Seeing how creators interact.
Seeing how brands observe.
Seeing how art is positioned.
Seeing how opportunities are formed.

That education alone was priceless.

Representation Matters

Many times, when you’re from a smaller city, you can start to believe your work won’t be noticed.

You question:

  • Is my work good enough?

  • Do I belong in these spaces?

  • Can someone from where I’m from really make it here?

Even after designing shoes for Oprah and LisaRaye, those moments were huge but being able to see my shoes displayed publicly, with people walking up, observing, and engaging with them? That was a different kind of validation.

It wasn’t just about celebrity moments.

It was about exposure.
It was about proximity.
It was about showing up.

What This Experience Taught Me

This weekend refreshed me mentally in a way I didn’t expect.

It reminded me that:

  • If you stay consistent, doors open.

  • If you don’t let fear control you, you grow.

  • If you put yourself out there, anything can happen.

So many of us hesitate.
We overthink.
We wait until everything feels perfect.

But being in that room confirmed something for me:

You don’t have to be perfect.
You just have to be present.

Locking in.
Having fun.
Being confident in your craft.

Those are key techniques most people overlook.

The Bigger Picture

This wasn’t just an event.
It was a reminder that I belong in bigger spaces.

It reminded me that even coming from Fort Wayne, Indiana, I can build something that travels.

And this is only the beginning.

If this was my first sneaker exhibition, I already know it won’t be my last.

Stay consistent.
Stay creative.
Stay fearless.

Anything can really happen.
